Wedding Tradition: Throwing the Confetti

Confetti originated as a part of the pagan wedding ritual. After the marriage had taken place, the happy couple would be showered with grain, a well know symbol of fertility, to wish the a fruitful union.
The word confetti comes from the same Italian word of confectionery and describes the sugar coated grains and nuts that were cast over early Roman newlyweds.
